Novick Congratulates Democratic House on ENDA Vote

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 8, 2007

Oregon Democratic Senate candidate Steve Novick congratulated Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Congressional Democrats on passage of the Employment Nondiscrimination Act, banning employment discrimination against gays, lesbians and bisexuals. "Today, we can be proud to be Democrats, and proud to be Americans,"

Novick said. "Yesterday's vote showed again that elections do matter. This is a major issue. This is a moral issue. The House has recognized that discrimination is just plain wrong." Novick said that he was disappointed that the bill did not include protection against discrimination based on gender identity, and promised to fight for such protection in the next Congress. "ENDA is a good start, but it is not the end," he said.
